Application of Cognitive Theory to Training and Design Solutions for Age-related Computer Use
نویسندگان
چکیده
As the prevalence of computer-based technologies increases throughout society, so does the likelihood that older adults will be required to interact with them. Unfortunately, such systems often appear to older adults to be too hard to use and too hard to learn. We provide examples highlighting the opportunities available to behavioural science to affect training and system design through practically relevant research. We focus on our research on ageing, computer use, and training to support our assertion that applied research aimed at designing training materials and system interfaces to enhance the performance of older adults can and should be driven by psychological theory. The data presented and studies reviewed here clearly demonstrate that theory is critical for predicting age differences in computer use, for guiding the development of both training and design interventions for older computer users, and for reconciling conicting ndings in the design-evaluation literature.

The present study aims to investigate language learners’ cognitive processes in on-line ESP courses. Three modes of inquiry are used: think-aloud protocol analysis, screen capture analysis, and correlation analysis. The theoretical foundations for the evaluation of the cognitive aspect of Ferdowsi Univeristy of Mashhad E-learning System are drawn from cognitive load theory, cognitive apprentice...

Pair and small group work is infrequently welcomed in English as a Foreign Language (EFL) classes under the assumption that students tend to use their first language (L1), which is considered detrimental to learning the new language. From sociocultural perspective, however, students’ first language is claimed to play the role of an important psychological tool and can facilitate the learning pr...
متن کاملThe Digital Gap in Patients' Use of Health Information Technology and Effective Factors and Strategies; a Systematic Review
Introduction: The digital divide means economic and social inequality for access to and use of ICT. Information and communication technology, despite the spatial and temporal barriers, can provide a valuable opportunity for patients to access health information. The aim of this study was to identify factors affecting the digital divide in patients and ways to reduce it. Materials and Methods: ...
متن کاملMapping Activity Diagram to Petri Net: Application of Markov Theory for Analyzing Non-Functional Parameters
The quality of an architectural design of a software system has a great influence on achieving non-functional requirements of a system. A regular software development project is often influenced by non-functional factors such as the customers' expectations about the performance and reliability of the software as well as the reduction of underlying risks. The evaluation of non-functional paramet...
